Cleaning out the lint build up inside your
dryer is very important. The accumulation
of lint can catch fire and spread to your
home. The lint will also act as insulation
on your motor and cause premature
failure. All dryers and there vents should
be cleaned at least once a year. Doing
this will keep your family safe and your
dryer operating.

KitchenAid Washer Doesn't Agitate - Agitator Dogs
If both parts of your KitchenAid washer agitator don't work then it may be a
bad motor coupling. If the top half of your KitchenAid washer agitator is not
working then it may have stripped agitator dogs. These agitator dogs are
small pieces of plastic that actually grab the agitator during a wash and can
strip out from wear or overloading. If you have a two part agitator, it should
spin free one way and grab the other way.
If your KitchenAid washer agitator spins free both ways, replace the agitator
dogs.
Start by unplugging the electricity from the washer.
Remove the fabric softener dispenser by pushing it to one side and up. If your
washer is not equipped with a fabric softener dispenser, remove the top
agitator cap by inserting a flat blade screwdriver and popping the cap out.
Remove the inner cap by grabbing the handle and pulling upward. This can
require some force sometimes.
Once you have the fabric softener dispenser or agitator cap and inner cap
removed, use a 7/16" socket with a long shaft extension to remove agitator
bolt counter clockwise.
With the agitator bolt removed you can now pull agitator up and out of
machine.
To remove top part of agitator from bottom, I usually use my feet to brace
both sides and pull up on top part till it separates.
With the two parts separated you can easily remove the cam assembly. The
cam assembly includes the cam, agitator dogs, and dogs retainer. The picture
to the right shows this black retainer, white cam, and tan dogs.
Now that you have the cam removed you can remove the retainer and replace
the four agitator dogs. Make note of the position of the dogs in cam before
removing.
Check the agitator thrust washer shown in the picture to the right. This washer
has raised tabs all the way around the top of it that raise the agitator up and
engage the agitator dogs during a wash.
If your thrust washer tabs are worn down then the washer must be replaced. I
suggest replacing it as a cam kit. The cam kit includes agitator dogs, cam,
thrust washer, dogs retainer, bolt seal, and cap o ring. There are a few
different kits so please call to be assured you receive the correct one.
If your agitator thrust washer is in good condition then you can just replace
the agitator dogs.
Before reassembling, use needle nose pliers and remove the 2 tabs shown in
the picture to the right. Remove by grasping with the pliers and spinning
agitator. These tabs are not needed and will make reassembly much easier.
Reassemble agitator assembly and test. Agitator should move freely in one
direction and grab in the opposite direction.
